Conamara: Setting the Benchmark for MEMS Speaker Reliability
Consumer expectations for wearable and audio devices are rising, and with them, the pressure on OEMs to choose components that won’t fail in the real world. At USound, we don’t just test our Conamara MEMS speakers to industry standards—we go further. In a market where some competitors still avoid drop tests or operation under high humidity, Conamara delivers verified resilience across mechanical, thermal, environmental, and electrical stress scenarios.
At USound, reliability is not an afterthought. It’s engineered into every generation of our MEMS speaker technology and validated through qualification standards that exceed industry requirements.
Speakers from the Conamara series have been verified for resilience across mechanical, thermal, environmental, and electrical stress conditions — delivering unmatched durability without compromising acoustic performance.
Conamara: Built for Harsh Environments
Unlike traditional micro speakers and many MEMS alternatives, Conamara was designed from the ground up for real-world reliability. Our qualification testing covers the following:
| Test Type | Standard / Method | Description |
| Drop Test | IEC 60068-2-31 | 20 guided drops from 1.5 meters |
| High Temperature Storage | IEC 60068-2-2 | 85°C for 96 hours |
| Low Temperature Storage | IEC 60068-2-1 | -40°C for 96 hours |
| Thermal Shock | IEC 60068-2-14 | -40°C to +85°C, 48 cycles |
| High Temp + Humidity (Operational) | IEC 60068-2-78 | 55°C / 95% RH for 96h with signal |
| IPx8 Water Ingress | IEC 60529 | Submersion for 30 min @ 3 meters |
| Salt Mist Exposure | IEC 60068-2-11 | 5% NaCl for 24h |
| ESD | ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC JS-001 (HBM), JESD22-C101 (CDM) | 3kV HBM, 250V CDM |
| Mechanical Stress Tests | Internal USound Protocol | Compression, shear, bending, and membrane pull |
All verified through the Conamara Qualification Approval Process, including compatibility with multiple soldering methods such as reflow and manual soldering.
Continuous Testing: Reliability as an Ongoing Discipline
Product qualification isn’t the finish line — it’s where long-term reliability begins. At USound, we go beyond the formal checklist by continuously testing new material combinations, process updates, and even minor design tweaks. Every design improvement, no matter how small, undergoes rigorous validation to ensure that Conamara consistently meets the high standards our customers expect.
In parallel, we regularly benchmark our solutions against established industry technologies. In one such internal study, we subjected Conamara and two widely used Balanced Armature (BA) receivers to the same 1.5-meter guided drop test. While the BA samples exhibited survival rates as low as 3–19%, Conamara consistently outperformed, confirming that our MEMS technology isn’t only innovative but also more rugged than legacy solutions.

Proven Reliability
In an industry where qualification data often goes unpublished, USound sets the standard for transparency and endurance.
Our Conamara MEMS speakers have proven their robustness not only in qualification testing but also in mass production, powering devices like the QCY MeloBuds N70 and other next-generation wearables.
Beyond consumer devices, Conamara’s durability opens opportunities in industrial and medical domains, including ultrasonic actuation, distance measurement, and bio-acoustic sensing — where stable, long-term performance under stress is mission-critical.
From Conamara to AuriSense, every USound component and firmware is engineered to perform flawlessly in the toughest conditions, giving OEM partners the confidence to innovate without compromise.
